How I Connected My Custom Domain to Blogger (And Made My Site Look Pro in Under 30 Minutes)

When I first created my blog, it lived on a free blogspot.com domain. It worked—but it didn’t feel serious. I knew I needed a custom domain name like www.mysite.com to look professional and build trust with readers.

Turns out, connecting a custom domain to Blogger is easier than I expected. If you’ve got a domain name and want to connect it to your Blogger site, here’s how I did it—step by step.

🛒 Step 1: Buy Your Domain

I bought my domain from Namecheap (myweekendfoodie.com) for under $10/year.

You can also use:

  • GoDaddy

  • Google Domains

  • Porkbun

  • Hostinger Domains

💡 Tip: Choose a domain that’s easy to remember and spell. .com is still the most trusted.

🌐 Step 2: Get Your Blogger Domain Settings

Inside Blogger:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Scroll down to Publishing

  3. Click “Custom Domain”

  4. Type your domain (with www, like www.myweekendfoodie.com)

You’ll get an error message—but that’s normal. Blogger will now show you two CNAME records you need to set up in your domain provider.

Example:

www → ghs.google.com

abc123xyz → gv-unique.googlehosted.com

⚙️ Step 3: Add CNAME Records to Your Domain

Go back to your domain registrar (like Namecheap) and:

  1. Open DNS settings

  2. Add the two CNAME records from Blogger

  3. Then add these four A-records (optional, but helps with non-www version):

    216.239.32.21
    216.239.34.21 216.239.36.21 216.239.38.21

This tells the internet that your domain should point to your Blogger blog.

⏳ Step 4: Wait for Propagation (10–30 minutes)

DNS changes take time. After 10–30 minutes, go back to Blogger and click “Save” again in the custom domain field.

If everything is correct, it should now accept your domain.

🔐 Step 5: Enable HTTPS (Very Important)

Back in Blogger settings:

Turn on HTTPS availability

Also turn on HTTPS redirect

This ensures your blog is secure (shows the lock icon in browsers) and avoids Google ranking penalties.

✅ Done! Your Blogger Site Is Now Live on Your Custom Domain

I was amazed how fast this worked. Within the hour, my blog was available at www.myweekendfoodie.com. No more long, ugly Blogspot link.

It instantly felt more polished and trustworthy—especially when sharing the site on social media or pitching guest posts.

Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need a Web Developer to Look Professional

In 2025, tools like Blogger plus a custom domain give you a pro-level blog without spending a dime on hosting. All it takes is a little patience with DNS settings and you're good to go.
